A Children’s Room that Naturally Grows with the Child

Children’s World in Practical Execution

One attic, a six-year-old schoolchild, and the parents’ wish for the new children’s room to serve in the future as well, when the little boy outgrows his childhood years. The assignment was to create a timeless and thoughtful space that would offer comfort to the little schoolchild, plenty of space for play and learning, while naturally growing with him.

The room is located in the attic, which determined some structural and spatial limitations, but at the same time offered the opportunity to design an interior with a cozy atmosphere. The color scheme follows a natural spirit – a combination of light wood, white color in various shades, and material textures creates a gentle, clean background that won’t “age under the child’s hands.”

Children's room grows with the child - inspiration

When the Attic Transforms into a Safe Haven for a Little Schoolchild

The dominant feature of the space is an elevated bed with upper sleeping area that provides sufficient load capacity even for an adult. Under the bunk bed, there is currently a “bunker” for playing, every little boy’s dream, which will transform in the future into smart storage space. Steps provide safe access to the bed, and safety is ensured by a protective net.

Part of the built-in wardrobe on the other side of the room is also a cozy seating corner with a mattress and pillows. The boy loves Harry Potter and also enjoys drawing. We drew inspiration from the motifs of this story and incorporated a creative corner with a writable wall into the design.

The desk is already dimensioned for school years and future computer work. A practical element is the washable paint that protects the walls, including from the paws of the family cat.

“When we design a children’s room, we don’t just address what the child needs now, but what they will need in three, five, ten years. With this room, we thought a lot about how to combine play elements with practical equipment, while preparing the space for future changes without the need for costly modifications. I believe this is the path to a truly long-term and functional solution,” says Design Manager Ing. Gabriela Hatláková.

Smart Furniture Keeps Pace with the Child’s Development

In the design, we consistently focused on efficient use of space and well-thought-out storage solutions. All furniture is custom-designed. On one wall, we created a built-in wardrobe with smart storage spaces and integrated seating. Opposite it stands a unit with sleeping area, work corner, and space for toys and art supplies. The room is already prepared for the next stage. When the bunker under the bed no longer makes sense, it can simply be replaced with pre-prepared wheeled cabinets, creating new storage space without affecting the rest of the interior.

In this children’s room, everything has its place. It is an airy, functional, and calm space that naturally supports the child’s development from school beginnings through teenage years. The investment in such an interior is not small, but it definitely pays off in the long term. It brings daily comfort, but also the certainty that the room won’t need to be completely redesigned in a few years.

Are you planning a children’s room that won’t become outdated with the first school years? We would be happy to design a solution for you that will work well immediately and equally well in several years.
